Vanishing Point (1971)

Vanishing Point (1971)

black car white car

A man delivering a car from Denver to San Francisco is determined to make the trip in fifteen hours, at all costs. I'm a sucker for movies about driving. And movies from the seventies. And desert landscapes. So it was a no-brainer that I would like this spell-binding movie-length existential car chase. Beautifully photographed, with an excellent soundtrack. Would later influence films such as Thelma & Louise (1991) and Lost Highway (1997).

Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills (revisited*)

Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills (1996)

Documentary about three teenagers tried for the murder of three eight-year-olds in Arkansas. The filmmakers apparently had an all-access pass to all the participants, which results in a nuanced and gripping presentation of the story. Still, by the end, it's hard to interpret the outcome as anything but a miscarriage of justice.

Verdict: keep*

*In an effort to make a little extra money, it occurred to me to sell some of my dvds. But as I looked through them, I found there were several cases where I felt the need to see the movie again before I decided if I could part with it. Hence the revisitation.
