Bender's Big Score (2007)




Two years after being cancelled, the cultishly adored tv series Futurama returned in the form of direct-to-dvd movies. This first one reflects the way the show's hit-and-miss jokes are made up for by how much fun it is just to spend time with these characters. Here, the gang must save Earth from three conniving aliens amidst time-travel hijinks.

The writers are used to writing 22-minute episodes, and you can really feel them straining to stretch out this plot. As a result, it ends up feeling rather... episodic, at first. But the story becomes engrossing, and rather touching.
