28 Weeks Later

After England has been ravaged by a “rage virus”, the US army begins repopulating a cleaned-up area. Of course, the trouble isn’t over. This sequel to 28 Days Later is slightly less artistically accomplished than the original, and less deeply disturbing, but the result is still a solid, intense horror film. The filmmakers do find ways to stake their own ground, partly via the central family dynamic. There is a touch of poetic justice to the way the plague starts over. And it continues the zombie movie tradition of slipping in social messages. The ending is half lame, half cool (that final shot).
