Apr. 30th, 2009 11:19 amI just read a book about the Academy Awards and thought I'd share one tidbit.
When Louise Fletcher won Best Actress for the 1975 Oscars she thanked her deaf parents in sign language, an emotional high point of the show.
Two years later, apparently attempting to milk this idea for sentiment, the show's producers had Debbie Boone perform Oscar-nominated song "You Light Up My Life" with a phony sign-language chorus of children pretending to be deaf (which made no logical sense).
*gag*
