(no subject)
This is my puppy's second night with me, and it's the first time I refrain from doing anything in response to his cries. It was even more difficult than I expected, especially not knowing how long he would go at it (it turned out to be thirty minutes).
And I can't believe the neighbours weren't being kept up by it.
I feel bad not even letting him know I'm at least there. But I think it's necessary, to teach him to spend the night alone. Responding will only reinforce his belief that whining is effective.
Fuck.
(note: I am not crate-training my dog. At night he stays in the kitchen, behind pet gates. Also, I am training him to eliminate indoors, on a plastic tray with a grate on top specially designed for this purpose. Hence, he is not barking to be taken outside.)
