Two US Marshalls come to a facility for the criminally insane to investigate a disappearance, and make unexpected discoveries.
I'm in the minority, but my favourite Martin Scorcese movie of the last twenty years is Cape Fear. That's the movie I was reminded of when I saw the previews for this, so I was hoping for a stylish gothic thriller. And that's exactly what I got - an atmospheric, visually stunning movie. Leonardo DiCaprio gives a deeply felt performance.
I wish the film hadn't been pushed back from its original October 2009 release date. Seeing previews for it for six months diluted the power of certain moments. I also had the misfortune of having an important plot point revealed to me in advance. Whether or not you're aware of it in advance, this plot point strains credibility. Regardless, I think I'll get more out of this movie when I see it a second time.
